POSE (FX, Sundays, 10PM): This show takes its final walk on the runway Sunday, June 6, at 10pm. I’ve gone through four of the stages of grief as the final season has progressed: shock & denial (“This can’t be the last season!”), anger (“What is going on with the writing in these first few episodes? Are they asleep at the wheel?”), bargaining (“Maybe there will be a spin off or something”), and depression (“I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters,” said through sobs). Check back with me on acceptance after the finale. I’ll be the one in a fetal position in the corner.
High on the Hog (Netflix, streaming): This docuseries is more than just the story of how African food shaped what we now think of as American cuisine; it’s an intimate look at how enslavement impacted literally EVERYTHING about this nation. Foodies will love it, but everyone needs to see it.
Black Monday (Showtime, Sundays, 10PM): I’m surprised this one hasn’t made it to my list until now. I like all these people, I love a good nostalgic turn, and honestly, they had me at “dark comedy” (my favorite shade). It’s currently in its third season, but having relatively short episodes (29-35 minutes each) means that a catch-up binge will be quick work.
